What does CDF mean in FUNDS

The Constituency Development Fund (CDF) is a development fund allocated by the government of Kenya to improve the socio-economic well-being of its citizens. It was established in 2003 and it is managed at the national level with funds being disbursed through constituencies.

CDF is administered by both parliamentary committees and public committees, which are appointed by respective constituency authorities as part of their oversight role. The parliamentary committee takes charge at national level while public committees are responsible for implementing projects locally within each constituency.

CDF is funded directly through national treasury allocations with funds coming from various government ministries and departments as well as loans secured by parliament members to supplement core funding. Additionally, donations from both individuals and institutions may also be accepted to support individual projects or programs.

The funds are mainly aimed at improving rural infrastructure, enhancing access to basic social services such as primary health care and education, and providing financial relief to communities affected by natural disasters or extreme poverty. In addition, constituents are able to influence how the funds should be spent on specific projects they need in their respective areas.

Projects which can be supported under this program include but are not limited to those related to agriculture, healthcare, water supply, sanitation facilities, educational infrastructure, markets development, roads repair, energy conservation and production etc.
