Two Way Immersion (TWI) is an education program in which half of the students are native English speakers and the other half are native speakers of another language. This type of program is designed to help both groups become proficient in both languages.

TWI can occur at any school level, from preschool to university. However, it’s most common in K-12 schools and often focuses on Spanish and English instruction.

Both groups participating in TWI benefit from increased cognitive development due to having to think more analytically when switching between two languages.
