What does BSSC mean in ACADEMIC & SCIENCE

The Behavioral Social Science Center (BSSC) is a research center at the University of Maryland focused on examining how people interact with each other and with their environment in order to gain a deeper understanding of human behavior. We use interdisciplinary approaches from psychology, economics, and other areas to address important social science questions.

The BSSC conducts both theoretical and empirical research that spans disciplines including psychology, economics, public health, anthropology, political science, education, and sociology. We have expertise in topics such as decision-making processes, risk perception and communication, public policy evaluation, racial and gender health disparities, intergroup relations, cognitive development in adolescence and young adults among diverse populations.

The BSSC values student involvement in our research initiatives. We offer undergraduate internships to provide students with hands-on experience conducting research under faculty supervision; apprenticeships for graduate students interested in gaining teaching experience; and volunteer opportunities for those who want to work on data collection and analysis projects.
