History of ACWR

The first incarnation of what would become known as "ACWR" began operations on August 10th, 1895 when it opened up its mainline connection between Wilmington (NC) and Asheville (NC). At this time the rail had about 42 miles of track belonging exclusively to them with another 25 miles leased from other companies allowing them to reach into counties such as Moore County from their main terminal at High Point (NC). During their heyday they operated more than 146 individual trains over their network carrying a wide range of goods including lumber products from Piedmont forests to Wilmington sawmills; textiles from Charlotte mills to local markets; tobacco from farm auctions near Monroe or Dunn which would be sold via connections to the larger eastern markets; produce from both Orange County farms to Raleigh markets; brick kilns; coal mines; stone quarries; grist mills; cotton gins; general merchandise stores; etc. Along with these goods they also provided passenger service back during its early days up until 1936 when it halted all commuter services due to dwindling numbers caused by increased automobile usage throughout the state resulting in its official closure shortly afterwards.

Current Status of ACWR

In 2007 ACWR was purchased by RailAmerica who decided upon reviving it once again due primarily to increased demand for freight services throughout North Carolina & South Carolina by other railroads like CSX who needed extra capacity help in order to carry out their operations efficiently. Since then it now operates over 66 miles across five different Counties owned by Genesee & Wyoming Incorporated providing freight services primarily consisting of chemicals & plastics materials going towards industries within either Winston Salem or Greensboro before finally going onward towards High Point or beyond into Virginia over NS lines respectively each day while also providing customers located along their lines access via switching services when necessary.
