ADTM is a special type of medium designed to preserve anaerobic bacteria samples for diagnostic testing purposes. It was specifically created to be used in the transport of plaque samples for microbiological evaluation. ADTM employs a variety of chemical additives, such as glycerol and glycols, that actively inhibit microbial growth, while also providing an oxygen-free environment that supports the survival and delivery of anaerobes.
