What does SBD mean in SPORTS

The Soap Box Derby is a youth racing program which has been in existence since 1934. It features races that are raced in homemade, gravity-powered cars made of wood, metal and other materials.

Participants can build their own car or purchase a kit from one of many vendors. Cars must adhere to strict safety guidelines and regulations to ensure safety during competition. Once a car passes inspection and before each heat, participants must weigh-in with their car.

There are four distinct divisions within the Soap Box Derby including Stock (ages 7—13), Super Stock (ages 9—18), Masters (ages 10—17) and Super Kids (ages 7-17). Each division has its own set of rules regarding car construction and racing techniques.

Races are usually held on local race tracks or hills throughout the country, although there are some special invitational events held at larger venues such as Bristol Motor Speedway.

Prizes vary depending on what division you're racing in but typically include trophies, medals and scholarship money for first place finishers. All participants receive T-shirts for competing in the event.
