The GSSO was formed by current Artistic Director Alan Howie and his team of dedicated experts to give young Scottish musicians an extraordinary performing opportunity that offers challenge and growth while exploring the best in orchestral repertoire. Each year, the orchestra performs works from numerous classical composers, as well as contemporary arrangements from popular films, musicals and other genres. The players are drawn from across the country and range from Grade 5 (or equivalent) level to those with university training in music performance.
