Who We Are

ACAF was founded in 2017 by four Toronto-based arts professionals—Krissy Cheung, Michelle Jackson, Lina Sunseri, and Nathan Yang—as a grassroots non-profit organization that offers direct support to thousands of individuals across Canada, regardless of where they may be in their career. In total over half a million dollars has been awarded since its inception with interest still growing! The awards are put towards projects that are submitted by individual artists who have demonstrated financial need and qualify based on the criteria stated in our application guidelines. This includes concepts such as innovative use or exploration of hybrid forms across any medium or discipline; achievement or potential for strong public impact; representation or contributions to advancing underrepresented communities; relevance/connection/importance to Asian Canadian culture (anywhere along the East Asian diaspora); risk taking as part of one's praxis.

What We Do

The mission of ACAF is twofold: firstly, we seek to amplify the visibility and artistic power of artists who identify as Asian-Canadian by awarding them grants and providing them professional development opportunities without barriers. Secondly, we contribute to strengthening some aspects that impact the ecosystem surrounding these said artists - improved access to funding and resources amongst other things - so that they may continue producing their art unhindered by systemic limitations. To achieve this we have an annual Open Call through which applicants can submit their projects for review where outstanding works will be recommended for awards ranging from $500—$5000 USD depending on project scale and scope. Additionally through production strategies like workshops with panelists from diverse creative backgrounds we aim to foster cross-discipline discourse exchange between fellow creatives whether it's related to music production processes or showcasing practises for visual artworks etc.
